Why Blog?
Oh god, I'm in this position again. You know, when you tell yourself you're going to become one of those "cool bloggers", but only keep it up a few weeks or so until it becomes a baron wasteland of a few wasted hours and stressing over HTML coding?
Blogging is a form of journalism that I've appreciated for a long while now due to its accessibility and applicable nature to large audiences, but I've always stuck with, well, default journalism. I'm currently a writer at The National Student, the UK's leading student publication, which in turn suggests that, yes, I am a student, currently studying English Language at the University of Birmingham.
I started finding my feet with journalism and writing in general with the uni's student newspaper; Redbrick. It gave me the confidence and platform to move onto The National Student, dibbling in Huffington Post, The Culture Trip and various other media platforms.
It's been pretty cool, attending press nights for theatre openings, interviewing everything from bands and singers, to the cast of Shrek The Musical and dancers in The Royal Ballet, to attending cultural and music festivals, to travelling abroad on press trips.
Which leads me, finally, I know, to why I've started blogging. I've just got back from a weekend away on Mallorca with a handful of other bloggers, courtesy of OnTheBeach.co.uk. My weekend with bloggers opened my eyes to what they do, how they do it and what it means. This doesn't mean that my time with The National Student will cease, but being a blogger sounds pretty cool.
I'd just like to thank the likes of Zoe, Jen, Em, Scarlett and Kayleigh for giving me the confidence to start this up.
